Pastor's Notes to Wesley
Hello Wesley,

A lot has changed in a week. By now, social distancing is commonplace. Masks are almost universally worn. We pray for each other, hoping everything will be OK. The unknown can be scary; Hollywood has made billions on that reality. Some like me sense a movement of God, a moment He has been waiting for, a time when His people got on their knees and returned to Him. If we are at that time, it is an immense privilege to be alive, to be chosen for this. I pray you feel chosen.

Jesus tells us, “you did not choose me, I chose you.” For a time I thought that meant He chose me to save me. I think differently now. I have started to better understand Paul’s being chosen. Are you chosen because you are necessary, needed to accomplish a divine task? Right now, people are scared. And God has a chosen people He expects to show the way through. So while you exercise caution because of the virus, exercise hope and joy and peace. I have had some of the best conversations in Home Depot this week I have ever had. People want to talk about God. Now is the time!

We will soon be gathering again. Now is not the time for that. Now is the tome for watch parties in your homes, to get on facebook with your friends and talk about God, Watch the livestreams with someone, someone who lives far, far away, someone you have been longing to share the gospel. It is possible nothing has ever worked before. Now may just be the time.

Your Pastor,
Ernie Post

Council on Ministries - Opportunities and Updates

As we struggle with the unknown of self-distancing and sheltering in place we as Disciples of Christ have an opportunity to change Fear into Love. I believe we can continue to be servants of God through our outreach programs by serving the Homeless and Pack A Sack but what other opportunities do we have as Christians during these restrictions and limitations?

In answer, we have created a Team ready and able to make calls and deliver the message of hope and love to all members of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

A Shepherding Team member will call members once a week to connect with them, check on their safety and health, and what things they may need. A simple script has been developed along with a list of members and contact information. We also have a Road Runner Team to secure and deliver whatever needs are identified.

If YOU would like to be a part of this Team and help bring light into the darkness please contact Tom Edwards at [email protected] or text to 813-624-3816 today.

Pack a Sack
Shaun and I were able to set up a drive through bag Pick up last Friday for Pack a sack families. We gave out probably 20+ bags. We will do this again on Friday. We have a table out front, we wipe down the bags and place on the table and they get the bag from there. This week we are putting out books as well and letting them take a book or 2. Hopefully word has gotten out that we are doing this and will give out more bags this Friday.
I also made up a few “family bags” and let Jose Olivo know since he’s around the Church, that if anyone comes by the church in need of help, he can give them at least a full bag of family size items.

Thinking of all of you and miss seeing our Church family…sending love.

Wesley Memorial Men's Ministry Work

Continuing The Work of God

As everyone's lives have been inconvenienced to say the least. Somethings don't change as in the case of the Wesley Memorial Men's Ministry work for those in need. We went to a Takeout Box only on weekend of March 21-22. We provided a Bag with both Breakfast and Lunch Meals. We provided 24 meals on Saturday and 50 meals on Sunday. Those which we were able to serve were Extremely Grateful for the Provision that was provided to them.
As the impending Safer at Home order is set to take place, we are going to provide through this Weekend as we would be having to throw the food away if we didn't use it. We realize that we are going to probably going to have some repercussions from this, but we need to provide notice about the changes our Ministry is going to attempt to make this Provision continue ASAP.
So, the Men's Group Leaders have made this decision with much consideration we will pay the price if any for our actions. Taking our Scriptural Beliefs and Obligations to God, Our Families and Community into consideration First and Foremost. We know that God has a Plan and a Future Plan for His Work to continue we must be Faithful Warriors of Our Lord and His Kingdom's Work. One of our last considerations needs to be Not Forgetting that Provision comes at Many Costs and that in the end this is how The Wesley Memorial United Methodist Men are in constant need of Financial Support as Well as Bodies in Place to Help.
In God's Service,
Roger Hyde - Men's Ministry
