a note from Pastor Ernie
Hello Wesley,
I was rereading Holy Moments, the book we are giving as gifts to visitors and members. The challenge of the book is to help people who have been thinking a certain way for a very long time to imagine rethinking, for the sake of renewal. The obvious parallel is to encourage Wesley to be open to rethinking. One of the principles Matthew Kelly offers is “We need a new approach.” This idea took fire in the late 80’s through the 90’s with the contemporary music movement in the church. I started a church in the 90’s and received the benefit of that movement, growing a large congregation. I have a sense that movement has run its course and now that music and approach has become more traditional in larger church settings. More than music will be required to move people into the future kingdom of God. Kelly writes, “we need a new approach if we are going to solve the world’s problems and ease the pain so many people experience daily. And while this new approach may be new to us, it is ancient.”

We have learned that changing the music in worship, while attractive for a while, has not the depth to solve the trouble of the world. We still have the same problems, now with more music. Music can affect the soul and no doubt new music touches many, I know it does me. This makes music an integral part of tomorrow. There is, though, more we need to seek to help others. As we seek renewal here at Wesley, we should be prepared to face the reality that different or even the same music is not the sole answer. There has to be something more.

Jesus and his disciples did sing from time to time. It helped form a deeper connection. We know that the music was only part of making disciples for Jesus. There was also teaching, rebuking, encouraging, eating meals together, going through trouble together, and just spending time together. Discipleship for tomorrow looks a lot like what Jesus was doing.

Something more for tomorrow is about having a strong enough conviction to actually enter into the lives of one another and bring Jesus with us. People can come meet Jesus at worship, and we really need to help them take Him home. Jesus is right next to us all day, every day. We need to help people know that. Just food for thought…

I love being your pastor,
Ernie

Ministry Highlights

CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES

Wednesday NIght Live is going strong. Last week they had 16 kids, 4 youth and 3 adults. They meet every Wed. night from 6:00- 8:00pm and start with a light dinner.
Last Sunday during the worship service Promiseland had a pre-Souper Bowl Party with contests for kicking and passing on the front lawn. They had 9 kids, including two new kids and two youth. (It's not too late to bring in a can of soup for the homeless ministry.)

The children's ministry has a lot of fun activities planned for our 4 year old thru 5th grade kids! The Spring Festival is coming up on March 2 and don't forget to wear your green on March 17 to Sunday Promiseland's St. Patrick's Day Celebration!

CUBA MINISTRY

ALTAR FLOWERS

Flowers, on or by the Altar for our Sunday worship services, would be a
wonderful addition. Simply call or email the church office and let Terri Davis know the date and any particular colors wanted. We have a florist that gives us special pricing and they do a beautiful job. Flowers don’t always have to be in memory of a loved one. Think about celebrating an anniversary, someone’s birthday, graduation or best of all, given to the Glory of God.
The office number is 813.469.9157 and the email [email protected]
The Ruth Circle is now collecting diapers, wipes, toiletries and educational supplies for their ministry to Children's Home Network. If you are able to help, please leave your donation in a marked container in the copy room. The Ruth Circle belongs to the United Women of Faith and meets the first Thursday of each month at 10am in the Sewing Room.

Happy to report that things are going smoothly this year and we are now at 209 children per week. With that, comes a lot more need for inventory. If you are able to help with a monetary donation or food donation, we would appreciate the support.
 Juice boxes or pouches
 Applesauce or fruit cups – small individual cups
 Nature’s bakery fig bars or Nutrigrain bars

You can bring the items to the church during normal business hours or of course bring with you on Sunday to church. Monetary donations can be put in offering in a marked envelope specifying Pack- A- Sack . If needed, you can reach out to Jamie directly to arrange a pick up at 813-967-3800 or [email protected]

We couldn’t do this without each and every one of you
and we are grateful for your continued support.
Please be in prayer for all the Pack a Sack children
and in prayer for our current needs.

Coffee with Ernie
This week Pastor Ernie talked about the significance of a behavior in the Bible called "rending of the garments" which is a dramatic physical action of "bearing of the heart" to do things differently. Along that thought, Pastor Ernie is working on a creative idea he would like to make happen for Good Friday. He needs someone who can build a very large shadow box for the stage as well as someone who can help create a "sound of caring". If interested, contact Ernie for more info. You can listen to Coffee with Ernie every Tuesday morning on Facebook at 7:30am or you can watch later.

A Prayer for Revival

Father God,
We live in such an age where people wander aimlessly to find something to give them meaning and life. What they seek they do not find, because they are not finding it in the true source of life itself-You. Father, today we come together as true and sincere followers of You to kindly and ardently ask for a revival of souls in this age. Father, You say in Matthew 7 to come and ask You as our Father for what we desire. Lord, we desire for our friends, families, and neighbors to be open and to seek and find the truth of the authentic source of life- You. We invite Your Holy Spirit to pour out onto the people You have made. We invite You to perform miracles, wonders, and to speak to the people You crafted with Your hands. Father, You say in Psalm 139 that You crafted each and every person in the hidden place in the palm of Your hand, and so we pray that truth will be brought to Light in each and every person You have crafted. It is only by Your Spirit that truth can be truly known (John 15:26) and so we implore this day for such revival of spirits, of nations, and of hearts.
In the Name of the Most High we pray,
Amen

10:00 am Covenant Renewal Service
"Bought with a Price"

Pastor Ernie Post

Please help the church save money on paper and printing by checking in virtually on Sunday Service and receiving a bulletin. The QR code will be posted on the outside and inside of sanctuary entries, in the pews, and at the coffee station. Give it a try and see if it works for you. Paper bulletins will still be available if preferred.

*Please note: When registering for check in, it is only required to input one contact - cell phone OR email (although both are preferred.) All other requests are optional and can be bypassed by simply pressing the done button.

Additional Note: The bulletin can also be found on the Church website (wesleymemorial.net) in the Contact drop down menu . It is updated every week by the end of Thursday for the following Sunday.

If your phone is not pulling up current bulletin via the QR code on Sunday, it is likely you need to clear your cache (search history). To do this, open your search app, tap the three dot bar at bottom, tap history, then clear browsing data. Make sure cookies and site data has a check to the right as well as cached images and files. Then at bottom click "clear browsing data". Refer to google as some phones may differ. It is a good idea to clear the cache on your phone occasionally to keep your phone operating at its best.

*******Even if you prefer a paper bulletin, you can still sign in online in lieu of using a connect card. That still helps the church with printing costs.*********
