a note from Pastor Ernie
Hello Wesley,
I would guess most of us are familiar with the movie Three Weddings and a Funeral. Not being a movie buff, I never saw it but can surmise it is about younger people, perhaps in their thirties, going through life. It came to me this week that I am at a different season in life because I have three funerals and a wedding. And so, for our thought this week, I offer you words from Solomon.

We are all familiar with the opening of Ecclesiastes 3, there is a season for everything. Listen to the words that follow: “I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is a gift of God. I know
that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.” Ecclesiastes 3: 9-14

I just want to encourage everyone to keep doing what God wants us to do. Serve the outcast, bring a smile to children through a shoebox, help a neighbor with their yard: Go into the world and shine the light. There is great joy in service and remember, only the things we do that are what God wants done last eternally. God has set eternity in our hearts and we are privileged to catch a glimpse of it when we serve others.

Take care,
Ernie

Ministry Highlights

CRAFT FAIR | FALL FESTIVAL

Last weekend was a big weekend here at Wesley. The annual Craft Fair was in the FLC. The entire Fellowship Hall was brimming with wonderful handmade items by the Women of Wesley. All proceeds from the Craft Fair go to ministries supported by the Women of Wesley.

Some of the ministries that WOW supports includes: World Team whose mission is to disciple and make disciples; Wycliffe Bible Translators, making the Bible accessible in various languages; Kairos Prison Ministry, sharing Jesus’ love to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth; Bridging Freedom whose mission is restoration and prevention of minor sex trafficking; Methodists United in Prayer providing support for sister churches in Cuba; FUM Children’s Home; Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes: Pack a Sack, providing food for chronically hungry children in the school system; and short mission trips of the Wesley Youth and other members.
Bridges Preschool had games and other fun activities in the play yard.
Soul Painting was set up in the courtyard and the overflow area. Renee and Terri helped participants select a finished painting and write a scripture devotional for the Advent Booklet.

HOPE 35TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE

We had a wonderful night at the Convention! Sue Korsberg, Connie Pruitt, Terri Davis, Norm Coffman, Tracey Shadday, Charlie and Carol Dittmar represented Wesley and were blessed with a great night of fellowship and excitement. It was inspiring to join with 300 other Network Members from 26 diverse congregations in seeking justice for our community. We welcomed new congregations, installed leadership, received updates on our current issues and the ongoing listening process, and planned for building our power for justice at the 2024 Nehemiah Action. We heard moving testimonies from individuals experiencing the very problems we are trying so hard to resolve. We saw video clips of our community leaders demonstrating why we need to keep pressing for relief for some of our most vulnerable and forgotten citizens.

TRUNK 'R TREAT

Thank you to everyone who helped make this an incredible event!

SOUL PAINTING

If you would like to be part of the Advent Booklet, there are still some paintings and scripture that can be claimed on the front high top table in the sanctuary overflow. Choose a painting and scripture that speaks to you. Please write your name on the back of the painting. There are also scripture devotional forms and instructions. You can leave yours on the table or submit later no later than Nov. 5. We would like more people in the congregation to contribute. If you wish, scripture devotionals can be submitted on line. Click button below.
We made cards out of the scraps from our soul painting roll of paper. Please select one or more (also on high top table) and write your focus scripture on the bottom. At the top please write "Love in Jesus Christ" and then sign your name with Wesley Church underneath. Some of the cards will be given to the residents of Habana Health Care Center and our sister church in Cuba. Others will be available for the congregation to give to a random person during Advent season. We will have cards ready to sign all through November.

A Prayer for Israel

Loving Lord, We ask You to deliver us from the Spirit of Apathy and Luke-
warmness that has crept into our lives, almost unseen and unexpected, as we
drift away from closeness to You, only preoccupied with the worldly things that
concern us.

We come to You today with a heavy heart, confessing that we have been
apathetic and indifferent towards the things of this world that matter most to You.
Your chosen people are under attack and in jeopardy from all fronts. The eyes of
so many here and abroad have been turned against Israel and darkness has
enveloped the world with evil words and deeds.

We pray that You would remove this Spirit of Apathy from our minds and hearts
and replace it with a sense of urgency to pursue Your will. Help us to see the
world through Your eyes and to be moved by the things that move you.
Give us the resolute determination and courage to take wise action, in deed and
words, and to know when to wait in deep prayer of surrender and trust. May
You, Lord, place Your hand of protection and peace upon all the innocent people
living in the Middle East, who, by no fault of their own, are being hurt and killed
by terrorists in this horrible conflict.

We are praying the words of Psalm 83:
O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their
heads. They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against
your treasured ones. They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!” …………… Let Your enemies be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace, that they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth.
Above all, help us to trust in Your goodness and Your faithfulness, answering our
supplication for healing of this broken world.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
