a note from Pastor Ernie
Hello Wesley,
What a trip! The day Brenda passed away, my son Matthew began to put this trip together for me. It is good to have people in your corner who understand you so well they know exactly what you need and are willing to put their whole life on hold to help. I really hope you have people in your corner like that.

As I travelled the northwest, I was enlivened by the endless trees. Mile after mile of huge pines and sequoias, some of them there more than a thousand years and a few almost two thousand. Staggers the mind.

Psalm 19 stayed with me the whole trip “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of His hands.” The sunrise below is from the balcony where I stayed at night. Quite glorious, every morning was like this. Never ending sunrises all created for us to enjoy. The world itself is charged with the grandeur of God. It shines forth, calls out to us. Every day creation tells us all is well. We are meant to live in harmony with this big beautiful world, not just to take care of it, but to be renewed by it, energized, filled with hope.

On one hike, there was a field of wildflowers in bloom. We decided to take a break and just sit and watch. The bumblebees were busy, flying in and out of the petals. They would enter empty legged and resurface with their legs filled with pollen, flying off to the hive to share the bounty. There were hundreds of them. What a feast!! Everything they needed just provided for them, there for the enjoyment.
Enjoy the sunrise.
I love being your pastor,
Ernie

Our HOPE ministry will be meeting on Monday, Aug. 28 at 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center. Wesley is a member of the Hillsborough Organization for Progress and Equality (HOPE), which seeks to address community concerns and to propose actions to secure justice for the oppressed and vulnerable, just as Jesus asks us to do. We aim to hold our public officials accountable for their decisions that impact Hillsborough County. Previously, HOPE has been able to secure public funds to support affordable housing and increased access to mental health services. Please join us to learn more about this important ministry! Questions? Contact Carol Dittmar, 813-499-7167 or [email protected] for more information.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN OF FAITH

CUBA MINISTRY

NEWS FROM PASTORA DARIELIS, Duranona Methodist Church – (8/19/23)
Expressions of deep love and gratefulness
FROM RENEE:
Thank you so much for the abundance of eyeglasses and other medicines and medical equipment. Not only will this enable the Duranona church to try to start a Clinic for basic needs, but also help the community and others pastors nearby. At this time, we don’t need any more donation of eyeglasses, there are more than enough. Please keep the medicines coming. Place them in the basket on the Cuba ministry table at sanctuary
overflow and I’ll pick them up. God willing, I will be doing another big package (maybe 60 lbs.+) to send out in the next few weeks. It’s kind of frustrating to wait for 2 or 3 months for its delivery, but “it is what it is” . Maybe they’ll get it by Christmas. Below is a suggested list of medicines most needed.
^ Acetaminophen- Tylenol ^ Folic acid
^ Ibuprophen ^ Vitamins C- B1-B6- B12 & Multi
^ Omeprazole- acid reflux relief ^ Vitamins for children- chewable
^ Meds to reduce pain, swelling, ^ Cough medicine
& arthritis pains
^ Aspirins ^ Menthol
^ Loratadine- Claritin (declorferidamina
^Dimenhydrinate –antihistamine (like Benadryl-
^ Dramine) treat nausea, vomiting
^ Imodium- anti-diarrheal
^ Meds for cold symptoms
^ Tablets - Calcium
^ Band aids

NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We need four volunteers, each available one Sunday a month during the worship service, to provide back up when the nursery has both infants and toddlers. Contact the church office if you are able to help. [email protected]

PACK-A-SAC MINISTRY

7 years and still going strong!!!

Hello everyone…we’re gearing up for another school year and our 7th year of the Pack a Sack program here at Wesley. We couldn’t even begin to do this ministry without all the support and prayers from our Wesley family. We are grateful for all the food donations, monetary donations and prayers, so from the bottom of our hearts – THANK YOU.
In an effort to grow this ministry, Shaun and I are meeting with Webb Middle School to see if we might be able to help their school and reach children in need at that location…we’ll keep you posted. What a blessing to be able to grow this program and reach as many children as possible, which has always been the goal.
DRIVERS NEEDED: Shaun coordinates the drivers and is in need to adding 2-3 more volunteers to take a shift for delivery of the pack a sack bags to the schools. Right now, this would be each Friday from about 10:30a – 11:30a. You pick up the bags here at Wesley, and deliver to Dickenson and Town n’ Country – possibly a 3rd school if we’re able to add this school year. We will also be looking to add a few “on call” delivery drivers for the occasional time we need a fill in. If this is something you’d like to learn more about, feel free to reach out to Shaun at 813/399-0220 or email: [email protected]

Thank you again for all the love and support –
Prayer Blankets will be on table at back of overflow area on Sundays. Please make a commitment to pray by signing your name on the personal note to be delivered with blanket.

A Prayer for Church Renewal

Lord Jesus, speak to us today, as You spoke to holy men and women
who have gone before us. Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us,
and so enable us
to hear you clearly
to listen to each other attentively
to imagine our future boldly
to discern your direction wisely
to persevere in your holy will courageously
to stay together in charity
to surrender our own plans readily
to embrace the greater good
to hand on your gifts to future generations.

We ask this of You who live and reign
with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God,
forever and ever. Amen
