a note from Pastor Ernie
Hello Wesley,
I have a daily devotion with my son and grandchildren and it sure is enlightening to get their perspective on faith, church, Jesus, service, hearing from God. This morning one of my grandsons sent something he had read and I thought it might be a good word for Wesley Church. “How strange it is that the God of majesty, sovereignty, and power ASKS FOR VOLUNTEERS! He could easily create robots to do His work or command angels to carry out His will." But God wants willing, surrendered servants. Have you been waiting for God to force you to serve Him? He is looking for VOLUNTEERS.
This has always been true and is ever more pertinent at Wesley now.

Here are some great opportunities to serve this fall:

Soul Painting: we have set aside four Saturday mornings: Sept 9, 23, October 14, 21 to explore with our community how God may speak to us through art. Opportunities to serve: set up, clean up, children’s games, food prep, assisting Terri Davis with the painting.

Homeless meal and clothing: Every Sunday morning from 6-8 several souls get together to serve the many homeless in our community and offer them fresh clothing and a shower. We often serve more than 50 meals and we are down to just a few volunteers and really could use some help, even once a month would be great.

Finding God in the Woods: We are creating monthly opportunities to gather and listen for God and enjoy fellowship beyond the walls of the church building. We could use a grill master or two for Sunday lunches, some grilling food is being provided and some will be brought by families. Pot luck style side dishes will be shared by all. Could use a couple of people to take pictures or videos, someone to create activities for families/children. It is likely we will also need some substitute helpers here on campus as some of the folks here want to go into the woods, like a nursery worker, Audio Visual help. We can get you some training for the last two opportunities.

I sure do love working here,
Ernie

HOPE Meeting
AUG. 28 AT 6PM

FLC FELLOWSHIP HALL

Our HOPE ministry will be meeting on Monday, Aug. 28 at 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center. Wesley is a member of the Hillsborough Organization for Progress and Equality (HOPE), which seeks to address community concerns and to propose actions to secure justice for the oppressed and vulnerable, just as Jesus asks us to do. We aim to hold our public officials accountable for their decisions that impact Hillsborough County. Previously, HOPE has been able to secure public funds to support affordable housing and increased access to mental health services. Please join us to learn more about this important ministry! Questions? Contact Carol Dittmar, 813-499-7167 or [email protected] for more information.
Bridges Preschool and Wesley will be coordinating to introduce you to Soul Painting!

Ministry Highlights

PROMISELAND CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Wednesday NIght Live will resume Wed., August 16 from 6-8pm for kids 4yrs. - 5th grade. They will continue curriculum from the summer VBS Keepers of the Kingdom as there was so much good material that could not be covered in just one week.

CUBA MINISTRY

“CHRISTIANS UNITED BY AMOR”

We are trying to be judicious with the donations you have given to the Cuba Ministry. We rely mostly on your donations to send medicines & eyeglasses and only buy food and hygiene items that are bare necessities. Any of these donations may be placed in the display table in the back or in the copy room with a Designation note “FOR CUBA”. They are very thankful for the medicines and glasses, as well as the generator and other items we have been able to help them with.
Pastora is now praying that God will allow them to start a small clinic that is accessible to their area. They actually have a doctor available but will need other medical resources such as blood pressure machines, blood glucose meters and strips, and thermometers in addition to a continuing supply of basic medications. Thank you Wesley for your support of this ministry!
There will be prayer blankets at the back of the church on Sunday
if you did not get a chance to stop by last Sunday.

Coffee with Ernie
This week Pastor Ernie talked about how Jesus took the Old Testament precepts given to Moses and turned them into intentions, not just behavior. The difference is I want to do what God wants me to do, not just do what God wants me to do. There is a difference. Join Pastor Ernie every Tuesday morning at 7:30am on Facebook or you can watch it later. Click link below for the most recent episode.

A Prayer for Spiritual Growth

Sovereign Lord, this life is a wonderful opportunity to experience Your love and enjoy You forever. Do not allow me to become complacent but let me have an insatiable desire to grow in Your love and grace. Fill my life with the joy of Your Spirit and let me grow tall and strong in You.

Life is a journey full of stumbling blocks and challenges. With each hurdle, there is growth. With each setback, a valuable lesson. Lord, I ask that You give me the wisdom and presence of mind to learn from my mistakes and pitfalls. Help me to approach these things with maturity, so that I can be closer to You.

You have taught us through Your Apostle Paul that we should leave childish things behind us, and move forward to a greater understanding of spiritual matters. Part of maturity is learning when to do this, and having the motivation to press forward. Help me to recognize when it is time to grow up. Allow me to take on new spiritual challenges, that I may be refined through service to You and my neighbor. In Your precious name. Amen.
