PASTOR'S NOTES

Hello Wesley,

Thank you to Norm Coffman and RIch Cockburn for being on call for me while I helped care for my family. Norm did a great job delivering the message.

My son-in-law, Ryan, came through the surgery well and is home recovering. We are hoping the final word will be that he is cancer free. So far so good and thank you all for your prayers.

While I was home last week, I spent an inordinate amount of time getting ready for our study of Corinth. The title of the series is, "what happens in Corinth stays in Corinth." A bit of Vegas there. Corinth was the sin city of the ancient world, except the "sins" committed were culturally acceptable and legal. Paul declares many of the practices to be ungodly and the result is a serious culture clash between the church and society. Our study will take some time to answer the question, "If something is culturally acceptable, can it be a sin?" Of course, almost everyone answers yes. But what does that mean for the church?

I read an article last week, "Sinful US cities that rival Vegas." The researchers evaluated 200 cities based on 7 criterion: Anger and Lust, Jealousy, Excess and Vices, Greed,Lust, Vanity, and Laziness
How they come to a score is beyond me but I found it interesting. Tampa was number 15 on the list, out of 200. Our highest scores were lust and vanity. It is just an article and I was most interested in what criterion they used to establish categories. What constitutes lust? or anger? Who determines a vice in our society? Are vices different for Christians and nonChristians?

This is going to be one interesting study, and I invite you to join us at 9 or 11:15, live or online. Invite others to listen in... Like us on facebook or watch from you tube through the church website.

I love being your pastor.

Ernie

In just two weeks the Agape House of Mercy, set in Derby, VT, is expected to close. The 11,000 square foot building will provide a new beginning and new home for up to 40 people who have been displaced due to war, many have a child with special needs who seek treatment that is unavailable to them otherwise.

Can you imagine leaving your home, friends, heirlooms, clothing and choosing what you will put in ONE BACK PACK as you escape the ravages of war?
Such is the case of the first of seven families coming to the USA. The Shapovalovas arrived this week with two sets of clothing, one they wore during their long flight over. Daughter Mariam was adopted by the Shapovalovas. This 8-year-old spitfire has burns over 80% of her body. She now requires skin grafts in areas that are breaking down. The next family to come are the Krutiis - Julia, Serhii, Veniamin and 10-year-old Ferida, who sustained a brain injury that has left her blind and in a wheelchair.
