Hello Wesley,
|
We are into summer, hot, stay inside summer. Now is the time I begin working on the messages for next year and this time I could use your help preparing. We are going to explore the natural world a bit next year so I am looking for photos or short video clips that might inspire an idea.
|
I am also searching the scriptures for verses about the natural world and our spiritual connection to it. The Bible is full of connections. One of the series will come from my garden and use the stories Jesus tells about weeds and seeds, flowers and branches and more. The other series will focus on structures in the natural world and we will see how God built things for our sakes. If you are out and about and come upon an amazing natural structure, stop, take a photo, and send it to me. Email works best.

The second request is for you to read all of 1 and 2 Corinthians over the next two weeks. Our summer study will be a study of the Corinthian church and Paul’s letters to them. It will be very challenging.
|
|
I am thankful to be at Wesley. I have had more than 20 people come to me in love concerned about how I handled the cherries I gave to my neighbors. Well done! I could have done better and we shall go over this Sunday. When I came to Wesley, no one felt comfortable enough with me to admonish me. Now we are truly on the journey together. I thank you for that trust.

In Honor of Sam Black
|
|
In honor of Sam Black, we will start gathering items for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes in July. Sam, who passed away recently, was a dedicated servant to this ministry for many years. He and his wife, Betty, collected gifts all year round and then worked hard during collection weeks. They helped with the church packing parties and packed many, many cartons with shoeboxes to start their journey around the world.

|
Each month we will be featuring different items to collect in Sam's honor.
|
|
JULY - school supplies, including pens, crayons and pencil sharpeners.
|
|
( Note: we currently have a sufficient supply of pencils)
|
|
AUGUST - small toys and small stuff
|
|
SEPTEMPER - face cloths, soap, and toothbrushes
|
|
OCTOBER - small balls, puzzles and games
|
(Remember, all items must be able to fit in a shoebox. Also, we are always in need of shoeboxes, preferable plastic, as they can be reused as a gift in themselves.)
|
|
Let's make Sam proud and make this the best year ever for Wesley's contribution to Samaritan's Purse Ministry, Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes!

MEDIA LUNA CHURCH
|
|
Our Sister Church in Granma Province, Cuba sends gratitude for
|
|
Wesley's continued support of their ministry.
|
|
|
|
Since 1997 Methodists United in Prayer has been a ministry of covenant relationship between the Florida Conference and the Methodist Church in Cuba. To date, Florida Methodist churches have made sister relationships with over half of the 433 Methodist churches in Cuba. This is a ministry of prayer and fellowship with our Cuban sisters and brothers. Every year many go on missions trips to their Cuba sister churches and Cuban pastors visit Florida churches.
|
The women at Wesley church decided to establish a relationship with the Media Luna Methodist Church by adopting its pastor, one of the ministry’s programs. There is also a commitment from both churches to pray for each other once a week. Medicines and other items are being sent to Cuba with caravan (mission trip) members.
|
Media Luna was the farthest mission of the Niquero Church (about 15 miles away). Missionary Rolando Suarez and his wife, Evora, had started visiting and evangelizing in that town, years ago, and felt that was where the Lord was sending them to spread the Word of God.
|
In the year 2000, because of the great travel difficulties to get to the mission, Niquero’s pastor was able to buy a small house in Media Luna (with a donation from Bayshore UMC) where Rolando and Evora could move and live as full-time missionaries. Many repairs had to be done to make this a livable house church
|
In the 2003 Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Cuba, Media Luna was appointed an official church of the Methodist Church in Cuba. Although all of those who come to the services tithe faithfully, their income is very meager.
|
|
After several pastoral changes, in the 2016 Annual Conference, Misleidis Mendoza was appointed pastor of Media Luna church. Pastora Misleydis and her husband have no children; they have 3 nieces and nephews whom they love as their own. Currently the church has about 70 members. Many more attend Media Luna small house church weekly to worship.
|
