ernie post quote from teaching colossians 2 16 thru 23

Pastor's Notes to Wesley

Hello Wesley,

I have been thinking about the difference between fulfill and abolish. Jesus told the disciples that he came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Matthew 5:17. To fulfill something means to finish it, complete it. To abolish it means to eliminate it, make it irrelevant. Jesus came to fulfill the law. The real problem was never the law, still isn’t. The real problem is misunderstanding the intent of the law. When we think God’s rules are given to reign in our behavior so that we can become acceptable to Him, we miss the point of the rules. To add emphasis to the intent of the law, Jesus adds, “You have heard it said thou shalt not commit murder, but I say to you, ‘you should not even get angry.’” It is this addition that makes the intent of the law clear.

It is impossible to never get angry, impossible for anyone. And that is the point of the law. We cannot keep it. We need help. We need Jesus to die on the cross to forgive our sin. A spiritual issue requires a spiritual solution. We are about to enter our study of Colossians into territory of the lists of shall not and shall. Lists serve our souls like the law. They point us somewhere. And we want to do the same thing the righteous Pharisees did who looked at the lists and pointed out where others have failed and they have succeeded. This sort of response to the law is ungodly. We are in no position to point out another’s failures because as I have said innumerable times now, “I am all I can handle.”

To fulfill the law, we need to sense that there is something more to life than our physical behavior. The Spirit of Christ convicts and guides, confirms and challenges us to turn away from the shadows and see the light. Turn and see that there is so much more to us. Once seen, the light cannot be unseen. The new self is on the way, and that is ever so hopeful to me.

I love being your pastor.

Ernie

hand bell choir resumes rehearsal

Being able to read music is a plus but if you don't, it's no problem. you will be amazed at how fast you will learn the Hand Bell music. Our ringers have a lot of fun at our rehearsals but also work hard when learning new music.

volunteers needed

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.

Good things come in threes. For the advisory committee for Ukraine ministry, our three are:
a. support Agape House of Mercy who will serve families from Ukraine who have children with special needs
b. support a pastor and his church in eastern Ukraine who is feeding the very hungry & traumatized
c. support those in our local community who desire to sponsor a Ukrainian refugee

The immediate need is to help Agape House raise the $55,000 needed to close on a building that can serve up to 40 refugees who are unable to get medical needs met in Ukraine and eastern European countries. Already these families have the forms needed to move forward.

Have you ever seen someone at church that everyone seems to know.....except you? Or do you know a person's face and heard their name around church, but you don't always put the two together? Every Tuesday Morning, Pastor Ernie does a live devotional connected to scripture. Right now he is reading through the book of Hebrews. If the devotional moves you, Pastor Ernie encourages you to SHARE the video and leave a comment, so that someone else may be blessed!

Dear prayer warriors:

God has allowed me the privilege of sending out requests, since the day we did it by phone. However, now to bring the system up to giving new people the opportunity to serve in this manner, we're trying to change the way we do things. We are asking that instead of emailing me a prayer request, you can email the Church office ([email protected]) or use the link below (in blue) to enter your prayer requests on the Wesley Prayer Wall that is connected to the website.

If you could please help me in spreading the word on this change,
I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your prayers and the privilege to serve.
In His service,
Fran
