Pastor's Notes to Wesley

We had an excellent first meeting to explore how we may be able to assist in Ukraine. Two very important contacts helped us begin to focus. We met Dr. Theresa who goes to Ukraine and now the refugee camps every few weeks to deliver medicines and supplies. And we met Lena who is Ukrainian and came here as a student. I have been in contact with her pastor back home and am sending words of encouragement every day. There are thousands of people sleeping on the floor of his church and the bunker and he makes meals for everyone and for all the elderly and disabled who stayed behind. They are making over 3.000 meals a day.

The first time I talked with him he had to run into the bunker because the bombs were exploding all around him. I am humbled by his effort. He has younger people driving meals everywhere and then driving to the war zone to bring people back to the church. It was ever so overwhelming just to talk with him. I want to go to help. I called a number of mission services and they all said the same thing. "Do not go now or you will be using vital resources we need for refugees."

So here is what we can do. The Pastor, Vitaly, asked us to pray. So we can pray fervently. Pray for protection. He and the church folks helping him cook need stamina. Pray that the trucks bringing them food have a clear road and do not get bombed. Pray for the elderly and disabled. A number of folks here at Wesley have gotten the Viber app on their phone and now have a prayer partner in Ukraine. We can help you do that. Pray for this to end.

The Ukraine team meets again next Thursday, April 7. Be in prayer for them as well.

I want to thank all who responded to help our Cuban brothers and sisters in their plight with your prayers and funds.
|
|
The Superintendent of the S. Maestra district (where our sister church Media Luna is located) tells me, in an email, that he had COVID, a few months back, and barely survived, thanks to medications sent from the States. His wife, Mercy, now has thyroid cancer and is undergoing surgery later this month.
|
Our ministry Tampa District Coordinator, Lynn Bordelon, was able to get an assortment of things needed for the surgery, like gloves, scalpels, sutures, intravenous antibiotics, etc. for Mercy’s surgery and sent them back to Cuba with Bishop Ricardo Pereira. Methodist Church in Cuba, who was in the States and was returning to Cuba this week. Thank you, Lord!
|
Other than supplying the doctors with essential surgery items, they will have to take their own towels, bedding and provide whatever food they are able to get for the patient, the doctor, and nurses.
|
I have not been able to communicate lately with Pastora Misleydis because her cellular broke. Since communications with our sister church are so essential, I am in the process of finding out the cost of a cellular and how to send it or buy it there.
|
The information on the handout I passed out last Sunday was mainly to give donations on the Methodists United in Prayer website. These funds will go for very much-needed prescription drugs. If you are still praying about helping Cuba with your funds, I would appreciate your donation to be made to Wesley MUMC/ Cuba ministry and given to the church to be entered into the Cuba account, so I’ll be able to use them for the purchase of the cellular.
|
Pastor Ernie always finishes his weekly message on the email newsletter with “I love being your pastor”. I can also say “I love being a fellow worker, joining with my Wesley folks in whatever God is doing locally and abroad”.

Summer Camp Fundraising Time!!!!
|

GodGang is so excited about going to Camp Anderson aka Camp Andy this year!!! They have opened up a second location in Vero Beach, FL which is only 2 hours away from Tampa! We have 40 Students registered for camp and the majority of the students need scholarships. The Camp Tuition for each student is $275 (this is very affordable tuition for 5 days of room & board & food & ALL activities). Don't be surprised if you see some fundraising efforts going on outside of the sanctuary very soon! GodGang Youth is so grateful for the support they receive from the congregation to make this happen for them. If you feel it on your heart to sponsor a child or 2 or 3, you can make a donation and give it to the church in the offering plate, make sure to put Youth Camp in the memo, or please contact Nadia at 813-750-6696 by text or email her at [email protected].

God has allowed me the privilege of sending out requests, since the day we did it by phone. However, now to bring the system up to giving new people the opportunity to serve in this manner, we're trying to change the way we do things. We will no longer be having the Salvation Army Donation Drop Box here at Wesley. Unfortunately, there have been items that are too large being left outside of the Drop Box that couldn't be collected and it has become an eye sore & a difficult job for the Salvation Army workers. Below is a link for anyone that would like to schedule a pick up for donations through the Salvation Army.
