a note from Pastor Ernie
Hello Wesley,

We have been hearing in church that our district superintendent, Emily Hotho, will be here June 4 at 11:15am (one service this day) to share with us from the pulpit and afterward have a dialogue concerning the state of the United Methodist Church and the process for a church to disaffiliate should we desire to do so.

I thought I would give a brief explanation of what is happening. In 2019 the General Conference of the United Methodist Church met and there was a motion passed that allowed churches to leave the denomination. The issue that pushed this to happen was the decades long debate about human sexuality and in particular whether homosexual weddings should be allowed to take place in the church and whether or not homosexuals should be ordained as pastors. There was a great divide. Some churches have already left the denomination, some 2,000 of the 32,000 United Methodist Churches in America. The paragraph that allows for disaffiliation has a sunset clause that expires December 31 of this year. Leadership has been looking at whether or not Wesley wants to disaffiliate. Emily is coming to help us all understand why we should stay with the United Methodist Church and will field questions we may have.

The following Wednesday, June 7, I will be available for further Q and A. We can meet at 7 pm in the fellowship hall. There will be a second Q and A on July 9 after church, again in the fellowship hall. I will also be available to groups already meeting to come and help us navigate this journey. Should leadership discern that it is best to have the church vote on this, we will have the DS set a date for the vote and there would need to be a super majority, 60% or more, to leave the denomination.

If this comes to a vote, only members will be allowed to vote. It is important we help folks by giving them every opportunity to join so we will have two new member classes in June after church, June 11 and June 25. There will be a number of ways to check on your membership. Someone will be in the back of the church with a list after church services and we will make the list available digitally so you can check.

Be in prayer for the church,
Ernie
This event is open to the church and community to celebrate veterans of past and present. Please, if you are coming to remember to bring your Memorabilla. We would love to reminisce, honor and pray on those from your past and present. Metals, Hats, Pictures, Letters, or anything else sentimental that has essences of your soldier are encouraged.

A special thank you to Betsy Danielson and Kelly Sweet for suggesting and organizing this event for the church!

The Silver Saints is a senior group that meets quarterly. Their mission is to connect with each other and their community and to provide support in their spiritual walk. Each meeting has a theme such as Cruising, Tailgating, Mardi Gras, Luau, Reunion, Hippie, Summer Picnic, etc. We have a devotion, provide lunch, play games and work on a service project. Some of our projects include: reading stories to the children at Bridges, appreciation gifts for church staff, appreciation gifts for the Nomads, Christmas baskets for the homeless, Thinking of You cards for shut-ins, appreciation cards to veterans and Christmas stockings for shut-ins.
Directly after second service we will go to the FLC Fellowship Hall. The church will provide chicken and is asking members to bring a side dish. If your last name is A-F, please bring a Salad/Pasta Dish, G-N Vegetable/Bread/Cheese Dish, O-V Desert/Fruit Dish..... Or as an alternative, bring what you wish!

Emily will start her presentation at 12:45pm as we are having lunch. A Question and Answer time will immediately follow. It is expected the meeting will conclude between 1:30 -2:00pm, depending on the quantity of questions. All questions will be answered. Please note this is a time for questions only, asked respectfully, with no speeches. Childcare will be available. Please let the office know if you are coming and would like childcare so we are adequately prepared for their lunch in a seperate room.

There will be a zoom link for those who are unable to attend in person. The link will be sent via email and text the day before as well as posted on the website. The recording will be available on the website shortly after.

This is a very important meeting that will involve the future of our church and whether or not we decide to remain UMC. Please make every effort to attend!

We are engaged in an epic battle for the hearts and minds of our youth. Every day, they're bombarded with lies about who they are, who their Creator is, and where their salvation comes from. Thankfully, God has given his children armor to wear in this battle between truth and lies, light and darkness, good and evil!

With this VBS, your kids will learn how they can be part of God's kingdom through salvation in his Son and will be equipped with the armor of God to become Keepers of the Kingdom who stand strong in today's battle for truth.

Carol Dittmar, our fearless leader was out of town and Sue Ann Korsberg stepped up to take her lead. So far the Wesley Network Members have comitted to a $2050.00 donation towards supporting the organization who works so hard to work with our county officials for positive change in Hillsborough County. Wesley members are invited to join us in support of this worthy cause. Click button below to donate.
The church is looking for four volunteers who can committ one Sunday a month (second service) to provide backup nursery care if needed. If interested, please contact Church Office at 813-769-9157.
Bridges Preschool is hiring part time teachers and assistants starting now and more in the summer and fall. 18 year olds looking for a summer job will be considered.

A Prayer for Unity in the Church

Oh Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer, unite our hearts in love and strengthen the bond within Your church.
Graciously grant us wisdom and understanding to overcome our differences and embrace one another as Your children.
Bless our leaders and grant them humility, that they may guide us towards unity and harmony in Your name.
Pour out Your Spirit upon us, that we may live in unity, sharing Your love and grace with the world.
In Your precious name, we pray. Amen.
