a note from Pastor Ernie
Hello Wesley,

This week I am preparing a lesson on the Apostle John. I have always been struck by how completely different his remembering is from Matthew and the others. John’s gospel is almost completely new from Matthew, Mark and Luke. It’s not that their theology is any different, but their perspective is. Mark just rushes from one event to another. “and then…’ is repeated many, many times. Matthew is written for Jewish people and so is filled with Old Testament illustrations and quotes. Luke has a
Gentile audience and has stories and events specific to Gentiles, The good Samaritan, the lost son, healing stories, the Centurion. John seems like he read these other accounts and simply kept remembering something they forgot.

I have begun wondering just how different we can be from one another and still be citizens of the same kingdom. John seems more interested in the relationships Jesus had with people and so his recollection of an event goes into way more detail and even has some emotional context. He really does see things from a different perspective.
When we realize how important those different perspectives are to God, it allows us clarity to love people who see things differently from us.

My children are very different. Their perspectives on things rarely match. Yet they are both believers and part of my family. Oddly, I never once considered one of them as outside the family, even though I may have disagreed with their perspective. Perhaps we can learn something from this rag tag group of disciples who rarely all saw things the same way,

I love being your pastor,
Ernie

THURSDAY, MAY 4, 2023

This is the day to pray for America.

As all our nation Pray for America whose pledge of allegiance recounts that we are “one nation under God,” and whose currency states that it is “in God we trust,” we, at Wesley Church, want to have a time of prayer and worship of the God who rules over our church and our country. God is the One who gave us this promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14:“If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

As we humbly and diligently seek Him, through prayer, we’ll be changed and see transformation in America and in our church. Through prayer, we are able to tap into His wisdom, strength, protection, and peace. He stands ready to respond to our needs
when we humbly ask for divine intervention in the affairs of this world.

Please join us on Thursday, May 4 th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
for a time of corporate prayer at the church sanctuary.

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
James 5:16b

We are engaged in an epic battle for the hearts and minds of our youth. Every day, they're bombarded with lies about who they are, who their Creator is, and where their salvation comes from. Thankfully, God has given his children armor to wear in this battle between truth and lies, light and darkness, good and evil!

With this VBS, your kids will learn how they can be part of God's kingdom through salvation in his Son and will be equipped with the armor of God to become Keepers of the Kingdom who stand strong in today's battle for truth.

A Prayer for renewal

"God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit – we cry out to You for the renewing of our minds. We have so often gone along with the ways of the world, without even noticing. Forgive us for our sins of commission and omission. Wake us up to the transforming power of Christ’s work on the cross for us. We want to seek your good, pleasing and perfect will for ourselves and those in our care. In Christ’s name, Amen.”
