a note from Pastor Ernie

Hello Wesley,

Hello Wesley,
I sit in my home office surrounded by Thomas Kincaide paintings. My church in Ocoee had a fundraiser and we sold the reprints so I have about 20 reprints. Each painting comes with a verse of scripture. There were hundreds to choose from so we picked paintings with scriptures that had meaning to one of us in the family. Over the years I have meditated on each of the paintings and the accompanying verses, thinking of my family and church as I prayed.

This is titled “Sweetheart Cottage” and the attached Bible verse is “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love.” Brenda and I use this as inspiration to create a home where love is the focus. This painting is one of many things God used in my life to teach me what I have been teaching the church for years. Love and being in a relationship with others are more important than being right. This truth has served me well over the years. The light of this painting comes from the inside of the cottage, where the family lives, from the family. Church can be the same way.

I love being your pastor.

Ernie

I have an exciting opportunity to present to you that can help you gain clarity about the new year 2023, while helping Ukrainians BOTH within the US living at Agape House of Mercy, in VT, and those remaining within their country. This email is to invite you to a two-hour virtual workshop led by my friend and fellow Toastmaster, Jacquelynn Peterson. She is a mindset coach and is offering her service to you by donation only. ALL donations will be given to Agape House of Mercy (Derby, VT) and Wesley Memorial's outreach to Kharkiv. Read on to learn more about these outreaches to the Ukrainian community.

For those new to the idea of "mindset", let me explain. There are attitudes and beliefs that can either help or hinder us as we attempt to achieve our dreams. For example, I may decide I want to run a 5K but my mindset about age can influence my decision and hinder motivation. Jacquelynn is skilled in helping us identify our path of purpose and realign our focus so we can achieve clarity, confidence and enthusiasm as 2022 closes out. Is this something that interests you? Do you know others who could benefit? PLEASE INVITE THEM.

Jacquelynn's Clarity for Charity workshop will be held virtually November 7th at 6pm. Why so soon? With the recent bombing in Ukraine, more than a million households in Ukraine have been left without electricity. Where power lines were not damaged, families have power only 8-10 hours per day. Many regions will go without electricity for much longer. Loss of power affects everything from the livelihood of families, the ability to have potable water and heat for the winter. We have a small team who knows how to get water, medicine and blankets inside the country. This is the same team that delivered 15 packages of medicine and supplies into Ukraine in May. Your donation, whatever the amount, will help us make the purchases Ukrainians have asked for.

The two beneficiaries of donations:

Agape House of Mercy, established in Derby, VT, four months ago, nurtures and supports 37 adults and children who made the courageous decision to leave their home and loved ones behind. Each came through the United for Ukraine visa process. Some left Europe with the hope of a better future for their children, some for much needed medical help and others for the freedom the US promises. It is humbling.

Wesley Memorial Church, in Tampa, FL, has been a determined force in offering heartfelt support to the suffering. The church's efforts toward Ukraine are guided by an advisory committee and have led the way in raising funds for medicine, medical supplies, support of Agape House of Mercy, daily encouragement to women whose husbands are on the front line and now will involve raising funds to bring water, medicine and blankets to Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine. It is there that a pastor has led volunteers to feed over 1,000 individuals every day even through ongoing shelling.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

one blood at wesley
The Big Red Bus
Someone needs a blood transfusion every two seconds and one out of every three people will need a transfusion at some point in their life. One donation helps save the lives of three people here in our local community within 48 to 72 hours. The turnaround is that fast and the need is that constant. Approximately 13% of the population is eligible to donate due to age, weight, or health restrictions, but of that 13%, only 3% will actually dedicate the time and effort to give. It takes about 35 minutes to complete the registration and donation process.

To donate blood, you must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110+ pounds, and be generally in good health. We offer donors a free health screening which includes their blood pressure, pulse rate, iron levels, cholesterol levels, blood typing, and several disease screenings. In addition, there are health benefits to donating blood regularly, including lowering cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of heart disease. We also offer donors a wonderful gift each time we conduct a blood drive.
