Freedom is not
a note from Pastor Ernie

Hello Wesley,

We have a big day this Sunday: one service of celebration at 11, a potluck dinner, filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, Singspiration at Habana. The church will provide chicken and rice as the main dish and everyone else can bring a dish to share: salad, casserole, dessert. At the potluck we will be receiving information for our GO month in November, both those who need work done and those
who plan to serve. I look forward to some time of fellowship with friends.

I have undertaken a huge task, dethatching my yard, which is about half an acre. Right now, all I know is that it is hard work and something I cannot do in one day, so I have decided to just follow the irrigation zones and do the job in five parts, one zone at a time. I sprayed for weeds, waited a week and have begun. To date I have almost 70 bags of thatch with one zone left.

As I work, I tend to think about what I am learning, which is why I am working. I have many lessons. Here are three:
1. Larger more difficult jobs are overwhelming when I look at them all at once. I do have options for these jobs, get some help, divide it up. This is like our GO days. All of the work can be done if we do both of those things.
2. Even places in the yard that look pretty good still have work to be done. With my yard, good enough is good enough. Yet with my soul, good enough is a very dangerous place to settle.
3. None of my neighbors do this. In fact, I have never seen a neighbor dethatch a lawn. So why am I doing it? Because I have much to learn. Right now, I am teaching my soul that hard work in the garden comes with being human.

These lessons help me in my everyday life. I am able to approach daily things that would normally be stressful with an attitude of trust. If I do the work, God brings the harvest. And this is ever so wonderful to live this way.

I love being your pastor.

Ernie

LIFE LINE SCREENING FRIDAY, OCT. 28th at WESLEY!

one blood at wesley
The Big Red Bus
Someone needs a blood transfusion every two seconds and one out of every three people will need a transfusion at some point in their life. One donation helps save the lives of three people here in our local community within 48 to 72 hours. The turnaround is that fast and the need is that constant. Approximately 13% of the population is eligible to donate due to age, weight, or health restrictions, but of that 13%, only 3% will actually dedicate the time and effort to give. It takes about 35 minutes to complete the registration and donation process.

To donate blood, you must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110+ pounds, and be generally in good health. We offer donors a free health screening which includes their blood pressure, pulse rate, iron levels, cholesterol levels, blood typing, and several disease screenings. In addition, there are health benefits to donating blood regularly, including lowering cholesterol levels and reducing the risk of heart disease. We also offer donors a wonderful gift each time we conduct a blood drive.
Ministry Highlights

CUBA MINISTRY

Last week was the bi-annual meeting of the Methodists United in Prayer (Cuba
ministry). All FL district Coordinators gathered to share testimonies of
what God is doing in Cuba and plan present and future activities and ways we
can help out our Cuban brothers and sisters in their time of crises.
Pastor Pedro (Methodist Church in Santiago de Cuba)who recently arrived from
Cuba with his wife to be reunited with their daughters came to the gathering
and shared the very terrible situation in Cuba with a lack of food, medicines, hygiene products, everything.

Wesley members, Renee and Pete Kincaid, have been contributing to the Cuba ministry to send many pounds of prescription and OTC medicines which were delivered throughout the Island. Another shipment is now being prepared to be sent by the end of the year or January, as soon as the funds are gathered.

Recently Renee had a table at the Wesley Craft Fair where she sells her own handmade crafts (along with some helpers) and uses the proceeds to send to the Conference so that medicines may be purchased and sent to our sister district/church.

Many of you will remember Pastor Juani when he visited us at Wesley several months ago with his daughter. His wife, Yadi, arrived Thursday from Cuba and now
the whole family is reunited after 7 years apart, by God s mercy and grace
and the loving reception of the United States. Pete and Renee Kincaid were able
to meet Pastor Juani and his wife coming by Tampa last week on their way to Quincy, FL where he is assigned to 2 churches. God is sooo good!!
