Second Sunday of Advent - - “When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.” - Peace Pilgrim

Pastor's Notes to Wesley

Ezekiel got up earlier than usual yesterday and wanted to go outside right away to see if he could see his breath from the cold. We only lasted a minute because we were not dressed for it but it was cold yesterday morning. It all brought back memories from my childhood in northern New Jersey: the first snow, Indian summer, school being cancelled, Christmas. I am so very fortunate that nearly all of my memories are good ones and I do not take that for granted. I have my parents to thank for that.

One Christmas we all got a toboggan. My dad took all five kids to Union Hill and we spent hours making a long path down the hill, tramping down the snow and riding the toboggan further and further down the hill with each pass. When we got home, my mom had hot chocolate ready for us. That was a great Christmas that year. The next day I took my brothers and sisters without my dad and convinced them we could steer the toboggan down the steep hill and go really fast. Well, we could not steer it well enough and ran it into a tree and shattered it. Two of us had to go to the hospital. Another good decision on my part.

It is funny how the presence of my dad one day made such a difference over the next day when I was on my own. Sometimes we tend to want to be on our own when we really need some guidance. It can be hard to admit that someone else knows better than we do. I had a mom and dad who nearly always knew better than I did. And we all have a heavenly Father who knows what is best for each of us. So today, I give you this gift, “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” 1 Peter 5:7

I love being your Pastor,
Ernie
