November 26 - December 2, 2020

Quote of the Week

I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. - - Abraham Lincoln on Oct 3 1863

Pastor's Notes to Wesley

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,

When I was in high school, I lived in Frankfurt Germany and everyone around me was very transient. No one stayed in the same place more than a couple of years. One of my friends, Mike, was the quarterback of the football team and stood 6’4” and weighed around 225 lbs. One Thanksgiving day I discovered both his parent were away on assignment and he was alone, so I invited him to our house for Thanksgiving dinner. Now mind you, my brothers and I could put away some food. So I told my mom and she made extra of everything. Mike came over and we must have had some kind of eating contest, like four or five plates each. We were totally done in, stuffed and sat down for our Thanksgiving nap.

After about fifteen minutes, Mike got up and said thank you to my mom and was leaving. “Where are you going?” I asked. Well it seems someone else invited him for Thanksgiving dinner and it started in just a few minutes. He was going to eat again! I sat there in disbelief. “How could he eat more?” I found out at practice that week that in fact he ate three times that day at different homes. He definitely was not alone.

I remember a sense of “wow’” as I realized how many other people cared for Mike. That was one of the formative events in my life leading me to create 'GO' Day and help my neighbors. My whole family does it, right down to the grandchildren. There really is nothing more satisfying than helping someone out. The church is delivering Thanksgiving meals today. I stopped in Wednesday to see the cooking progress. WOW If you have a neighbor who is spending Thanksgiving alone, take them a meal. Cook a little extra. Help people to know you care. It will make a difference for them and for you.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Pastor Ernie
