Quote of the Week

“You reflect on the people who used to be in your life, and it's like, 'Wow, I can't believe that person was ever really in my life.' But people are put into your life for seasons, for different reasons, and to teach you lessons". - - Selena Gomez
Pastor's Notes to Wesley
Hello Wesley,
Thank you for the time with my family. It was heartbreaking to see my mom and dad going through the death of their daughter and I was glad I was there. I was fortunate to have my son travel with me, more than 30 hours of driving. We spent the time listening to an audio book, a first for me. It really made the time fly. Matthew brought the book with him and warned me the language was a bit off color, and it was. But the book was quite interesting. Living with a Seal, a day by day account of a man who hired a Navy Seal to train him for a month and had the guy move in with him and his family. The lessons in the book were worth wading through the language issues.

One of the chapters was “what do you want?” Guests came over and they all played a game, “What do you want?” where people just talked about what they wanted in life. Everyone wanted the usual, to be happy, some wanted stuff, one a new job. Then came the Seal’s turn, “I don’t want any of the stuff you all want. I just want to get better tomorrow.”

I could not listen to the book without wondering about my own choices in life, and I think I have come to the same conclusion. I just want to be a better me tomorrow. The Seal owned nothing, had no family, came and went as he pleased, spent his entire life fine tuning his body for ultra marathon 100 mile races. I am happy to say I do not want that. But I do want to be a better me. And to make sure I am improving in the right direction, I need a target, a vision. What does a better me look like? My answer, “I want to look a little more like Jesus.”

Good to be home friends,
Pastor Ernie
