Pastor's Notes to Wesley
On my desk, there is a photo of Brenda holding two five pound bass.
I love that picture because of the story behind it. My brother and I took her to a river we fished daily as kids. We knew it well. We told her to stay by the bank and gave her an old pole with a Big O lure while we went to a place too difficult for her to get to. We did not get more than a hundred feet and heard her squealing. She was running from the river and we saw a bass flop up the bank onto the shore. She did not even know how to reel it in so she turned and ran. I gave her a lesson on reeling in the bait and left her there again. Not fifty feet away I heard her again squealing. She had another one.

I gave her very little training and of course thought I knew so much as to leave her in a not so good fishing spot only to be outdone by a first timer. I love the picture for a lot of reasons. She is beautiful and has a huge smile. Behind the smile is her spunk at knowing she outdid me, and underneath it all is a humbling experience from which I learned.

Paul tells the Philippian church, “I thank God every time I remember your partnership with me.” I am thankful today for lessons learned. I am thankful for a family that loves the Lord and loves me. I am thankful for a church that is willing to try new things. I am thankful for the Children’s ministry team and the tremendous effort they put into VBS. I am thankful for an opportunity to pastor during difficult days. I am thankful that I already know God will be faithful and I can live at peace.

Go and be thankful.
I love being your pastor,
Ernie
