It is getting cold outside, just in time for Christmas. Yes! This week in church we are having communion and will be adding one more thought to our victory tree. Many of us, if not all of us, put up a Christmas tree for the season and decorate it with bright shiny things that make us feel good. In our home, many of the decorations have been in the family for decades, some of the ornaments are home made and some even have photos of our kids when they were little. Though I must confess I am not a fan of decorating, I do like the decorations. There is something comforting about those 40 year old ornaments and Brenda's Snowbaby collection.

I would like us to decorate our victory tree with some comforting shiny things and we will talk about why that is OK for us as a church. Every year I get mail about NOT participating in all of the pagan traditions of Christmas like a tree because these traditions are not in the Bible. Well birthday parties are not in the Bible either and I like those and see no reason not to celebrate. Our heavenly Father wants to see us smile and the ornaments on my tree make me smile, they push me to give thanks to God for a life well lived. So celebrate traditions. Shiny can be good. Twinkling lights make me smile. Tis the season to be jolly.

We will no longer be having the Salvation Army Donation Drop Box here at Wesley. Unfortunately, there have been items that are too large being left outside of the Drop Box that couldn't be collected and it has become an eye sore & a difficult job for the Salvation Army workers.
