|
My parents celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary today. Living that long is one thing, living that long with another person is quite astounding. Over the years I know they cannot imagine anything different. There is something to be said for longevity, for sticking with someone no matter what, believing the best, hoping sometimes against hope. I grew up with them, so I remember what it was like early in these 68 years. My dad worked three jobs; my mom worked a full time job at the hospital and the five children grew up fast.

All of us became very independent adults. My parents wanted nothing more than a better life for us. They both grew up poor. My dad is one of thirteen on a farm in New Jersey. His dad was gone for long stints as a conductor on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. My mom is one of four who grew up in a very tiny two bedroom house, our gathering place for Thanksgiving. I remember to this day when the homesteads were sold. Very traumatic and a symbol of progress and changing times in my life.

I am not so hepped up on progress any longer and spend too much time bemoaning what is passed rather than anticipating what is ahead. I may not be able to bring back value for the things now gone, but I can help find value in the things ahead. That is my goal, to find the hope in the progress, the value in what is new.

Flexibility classes to ease aches and pains, improve stability, and increase range of motion are held on Wednesday and Friday at 5 PM as well as Sunday after second service. A yoga mat is suggested but not required. Stretchable clothing and socks will help in the program. Contact Rick Preston at rprestonus#yahoo.com for any questions. There are no age restrictions. All are welcome.

We are up and running and deliveries are going smoothly. We have a local girl scout troop that has collected food for Pack a Sack in the past and donated girl scout cookies for our bags are coming to pack next week. I’ll share photos from our get-together.
|
Thank you to everyone who has donated food items, we sincerely appreciate it. With that, we will be collecting the following for the next few weeks. Items needed:
|
- Raisins (small boxes)
- Applesauce SQUEEZE pouches (they have fruit/veggie ones as well)
- Libby’s Veggie Cups (4 pack/4 oz.) – found in the can veggie isle
I’ll be sharing information next week on how to sign up for Amazon Smile and choose Pack A Sack as your preferred charity.

12 Step Christian Living will resume Wednesday classes on September from 6:30-8pm in the church library.
We are in the middle of a book study, "Wide Angle: Framing your Worldview" by Rick Warren and Charles Colson, but each chapter is a new topic so new friends can fit right in!
We are a discussion-oriented group and everyone is welcome!
