Pastor's Notes to Wesley
I had a conversation yesterday with one of our youth who has been going to the Dr to figure out why he has intestinal pain. Dr thinks it might be dairy. I happen to have the same issue in a more mild fashion. I love cheese. Cheese omelets, cheeseburgers, extra cheese on my pizza, cheesy bread, grilled cheese, lasagne with lots of cheese, sprinkle a little cheese on your salad? You bet! I try to moderate but whew, not too good at it. What do you do if the reaction to cheese is more serious, like going to the hospital serious? I would think we would all do what my daughter does, stop dairy altogether. In our spiritual lives it is likely that the more serious the result of our sin is, the more likely it is we will seek serious transformation. I think the trouble we sometimes face is that we are looking for earthly consequences to our sin and not spiritual ones. I have a friend who gets in trouble when he drinks too much. So my answer to him was to stop drinking altogether. It just was so obvious drinking was causing pain. His answer was, "I can moderate what I drink." He was and is wrong. Some people can handle a little drink. For others it causes great pain, even spiritual separation from God because God has made His answer so clear. We cannot ignore God and think there are no consequences just because the world does not see the trouble. Remember what Paul tells us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Listen as God leads us to transformation.

We are gearing up for the school year and excited to be able to help our community children again this year. Shaun has been in communication with the schools and it looks as though we’ve been given the go ahead to start just after Labor Day. So far, Town n Country will be starting with 35 kids and we are waiting on the start number from Dickenson. With that, it’s time to stock the shelves again. Items needed:
- Juice boxes/pouches
- Peanut Butter crackers (kid friendly)
- Nutrigrain bars
- Libby’s Veggie Cups (4 pack/4 oz) – found in the can veggie isle
VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED: We are in need of drivers for deliveries to the schools on Friday. Please be in touch with Shaun Black for more details – email: [email protected]

A Simple 'Short-Read' Practice Exercise
When we read Scripture, do we allow it to read us? Do we allow it to go through us and cut us, to provoke, challenge, and comfort us? The writer of Hebrews says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Do we allow voice of the Holy Spirit? As with food, it’s not just what you consume, it’s what your body can process; after all, we know that many vitamins pass through our body without actually nourishing us. So we must develop practices that can help us receive and process the words of Scripture until it becomes the Word of God within us.
As an example, here is a simple practice for allowing the Scripture to become the Word of God for us:
