Pastor's Notes to Wesley

Hello Wesley,
A friend recently gave a copy of the devotion from Oswald Chamber’s reflection on Romans 6, our text for this coming Sunday. One line really spoke to me, “Eternal life is not a gift from God, it is the gift of God. The power which is so very evident in Jesus will be exhibited in us by an act of the absolute sovereign grace of God, once we have made that complete and effective decision about sin.” this is so very much like what we are learning in church. We must make a “complete and effective decision about sin.” We cannot be halfway, stumbling through maybe and maybe not. For us to be made right with God begins with certainty that we are broken, I am broken.

For us to be set free from the chains, we must first realize we are chained. The clear evidence of our freedom is seen in the power of God living in us. God himself is the gift. What a tremendous thought. We unwrapped our gifts Sunday with eyes open, knowing full well that a relationship with Jesus leads us unto transformation. He cannot live in us without changing us. Thanks be to God!

And knowing God is with me, I can be nothing but victorious.

I love being your pastor,
Ernie

Pack a Sack
We are so grateful that we were able to help Dickenson and TNC Elementary for at least a few months of the school year. We have 6 school weeks to go! Forgot to mention, a few weeks ago George Weiland was able to provide a box full of masks (from Metropolitan Ministries) for kids so we divided them up and gave a
nice supply to each school. Thanks for sharing George and Linda! To help with summer reading for the kids, we are planning to put reading books in the last few weeks of bags…We have lots of Scholastic books donated last year from Brenda Billings, so we’ll plan to put 1 or 2 books in each bag during the month of May.
I’ll be coordinating with Susan Lamont the presentation of the donation check to Pack a Sack from Tampa Day School. I’ll keep everyone posted on that fun news!
If you’d like to donate during these last few weeks, we are collecting:
  • Fruit cups/bowls (4 oz) – kid-friendly flavors
  • Nutrigrain bars
  • Applesauce squeeze pouches – we happily accept
the applesauce or fruit/veggie combo pouches

As always – thank you for your support and prayers!

zoom training
We are all beyond excited to be back to in-person meetings at Wesley! God has taught us a lot over the last year. As we adapted the ways we worshipped, studied, and served, God has worked to expand our reach beyond our walls with the help of technology. While we treasure the opportunity for fellowship more than ever, we have learned there are advantages to offering an online option to attend meetings or classes. We use a company called “Zoom” to provide a video conference option to attend even if you are out of town, you have no transportation, or the weather is unpleasant. You can use the same technology to meet securely online with family and friends that live far away. If you would like to learn about how Zoom works or practicing “Zooming,” you can meet with us on Sunday, May 2, at 1:00 PM. You may attend in person at church or online from anywhere with a phone or internet connection. Let us know if you are interested!
