Pastor's Notes to Wesley

Hello Wesley,
To help us better understand what we are learning on Sundays from Romans, I thought I would put the key thoughts of chapters 1-3 in written form.
Main thought: “I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God that brings salvation to all who believe, to the Jew first and also the Gentile. For in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written, “the righteous will live by faith.”
Romans 1:16-17
General revelation: What needs to be known about God has always been apparent in creation. Humanity has chosen to worship the creature rather that praise the Creator. This is known as “sin nature,” or in traditional theology, original sin. All of humanity is guilty of this, no exceptions, so there are no good people. When we are living in our sin nature, God “turns us over to ourselves.” Each individual also has behavioral sin, personal sin, which can take the form of commission (the list in Romans 1) or omission, not doing what we should. Each person is held accountable for personal choices and attitudes. Again, no one chooses the Godly way every time, so all have personal sin.
Justification: We are made right with God by becoming aware of our sin nature, repenting, confessing, and turning toward God. The Holy Spirit is at work in EVERY soul convicting each of sin nature. When we come to this place, God crucifies our sin nature, once and for all. Prior to this “born again” experience, behavior, good or bad, is irrelevant unto salvation. No good behaviors will save us and we are already guilty so no bad behaviors make us worse. Justification happens on the cross and is realized
by faith in Jesus.
Sanctification: Those who become aware and repent, proclaiming the need for a savior, are then on a new journey both Paul and Jesus call the narrow path. The Holy Spirit works in the life of a believer to guide, teach, confirm or deny thoughts or behavior. Though our sin nature is no more, our personal bent toward sinning still exists, so we have to repent and confess on a continuing basis, asking the Holy Spirit to empower us unto transformation. This is a life long journey and the work is done with my
participation. God does not do this work in me without my cooperation.

I Pray this will sink in and help you on your journey.

I love being your pastor,
Ernie

nomads thankyou
The NOMADS are so thankful for all of the support they have received while serving at Wesley. They said the words of encouragement helped them keep going and warmed their hearts. They loved hearing, "Thank you for your hard work!", "Everything looks so great!", "Wow, what a huge difference!" It is a beautiful thing when we can appreciate each other in the work our Lord is calling us to. Pictured above are the NOMADS that worked at Wesley, From the top left to the bottom right: Marty, Herman, Janis, Karla, Donna, Pat, and Elliot. Let us be in prayer for the next project these amazing servants of God will go on! We are so appreciative for all they have done here and how much help they provided Wesley in keeping our campus beautiful. We wish you all many blessings and hope to have you back!
