Pastor's Notes to Wesley

Hello Wesley,
We are celebrating the beginning of lent in the Christian world, Ash Wednesday. This marks the first of forty days when Christians recognize their call to walk in a manner worth of Jesus and turn away from the temptations of society to focus attention on our spiritual growth. While we acknowledge each day should reflect our disciplined walk, Lent offers a chance for us to focus.
Our spiritual walk should always include things we change, some things need removal and others need to be added. It is like breathing, out with the bad air, in with the good. For many, we focus a lot of attention on out with the bad. People give up sugar, chocolate, salty foods, others use this to propel them to quit smoking or even doing drugs. Yet I have learned in life that if I only remove, I am likely to fail. I need both, out and in…
To this end, I am challenging all to read their Bible for 15 minutes each day and pray for God to grant us wisdom and insight. If you want to know where to read, just follow along with some of our teachings. On Sundays, we are learning from Romans and on Tuesdays from 1 and 2 Thessalonians. There are videos of the text available on the website, www.wesleymemorial.net. Each of the lessons is less than 30 minutes and most are around 20. Could be a great way to start each day.
As we read, I want to encourage you to read for insight rather than reading to finish the last word, simply stop reading when God tells you, ‘now here is something worth considering.”

I love being your pastor,
Ernie

valentines 1
We sent or delivered the “Valentines Love” cards last week to our members and friends, and the gift we received was the smiles on their faces or the Christian hugs!
Thank you to the Children’s Ministry, Bridges, and Wesley Youth for their help and dedication in Remembering Others. Also to the Shepherding Team and Council on Ministry for their devotion as Disciples.

Pack a Sack
Pack a Sack is back!
It’s exciting to announce that we have started back with the Pack a Sack program for Town n’ Country and Dickenson Elementary. We are starting with 65 bags for Dickenson and 30 for TNC. Right now, we are somewhat in a trial run as we are making sure the schools are comfortable with our protocols, procedures, etc. Once we deliver for a few more weeks and all agree that program is working, we will fully ramp up. Due to COVID we are not collecting plastic bags as we have some from another source.
If you’d like to donate food items, we are asking for
  • Juice boxes
  • Nutrigrain bars
  • Raisins
We are grateful for your prayers….

Hope Rally march 1

Since the October Convention, the Criminal Justice Committee and newly formed Mental Health and Addiction Committee have been busy doing research, meeting with decision makers and professionals, and strategizing winnable solutions to bring to the Nehemiah Action.
The Rally is an exciting event, which equips us to effectively build the power of people toward our March 22 Nehemiah Action. Justice Ministry Network Members learn what we discovered during our research and what we want from public officials at the Nehemiah Action. Network Members make commitments toward the Nehemiah Action to make sure we will have 1,500 people united from across Hillsborough County so that we can address serious problems in our community.

STEWARDSHIP UPDATE

“Our Vision is to make and send Disciples who live and love like Jesus.”
“The Joy of Giving,” our 2021 Stewardship campaign communicated the importance for our church and the missions and ministries we support. Through teamwork and your diligence it was a very successful program.
With a goal of $428,000, our members committed to $428,676 or 100.2% of the challenge. We had 96 households (Commitment Cards or Electronic Giving) participating.
Thank you again for being an important part of this success story, and the future of our church.
