Pastor's Notes to Wesley
Hello Wesley,
It is that time of year: graduation ceremonies, concerts. Calendars fill up and many travel to be with family and celebrate. Jesus made several such trips for passover, travelling from the north to Jerusalem to celebrate with his disciples.
One of the great lessons I learned early on from Jesus was to make the trip a learning experience. Jesus would deliberately go out of the way, off the beaten path, for the chance to teach the disciples something they needed to know in the future. He seized every opportunity and used it as a teaching moment.
Now none of us are Jesus, but we all have moments we could use as teaching moments for the people we love. When our children are small, this is especially important. If you are planning a trip, be deliberate about what you want your family to learn. Jesus wanted the disciples to learn how to treat people who are different from them, people they had historically avoided. To do this, he deliberately took a different path to Jerusalem for passover; he went through Samaria. (Luke 9:51). The people there rejected the disciples and were harsh toward them, and this is exactly what Jesus wanted so he could really teach them. Had it been easy, the lesson would have been different.
James and John want to treat the inhospital people with wrath. Jesus rebukes them and simply goes to the next village. This becomes a tremendously important lesson later in life for the disciples and a lesson they must revisit several times before they
So as you are with friends and families this summer, ask God to help you discern moments when you can teach. There are many. Have a great week!
I love being your pastor.
Ernie

On Monday, May 23, we had a great time at the HOPE Celebration! In attendance were Charlie and Carol Dittmar, Ginny Winters, Connie Pruitt, Terri Davis, Celia Petters, Sue Korsberg, Nancy Blunk, and Rose Harper. We had a lot of fun fellowshipping with other believers, reflecting on our call to do justice, and celebrating the successes we've seen this year. We had the opportunity to invest and take ownership of the work we are doing, and responded with pledges totaling over $1500.
HOPE is a non-profit, non-denominational, and non-partisan organization that does not accept any government or United Way funds. All investments are fully tax-deductible. It is supported by the member fees paid by churches, corporate contributions, and individual investors. HOPE has helped lower taxpayer expenses in Hillsborough County through the expansion of the civil citation program, which has dramatically reduced juvenile arrests, and with the money invested in mental health recovery following a model which has been demonstrated to reduce arrests, Baker Act proceedings, and hospitalizations. It is a wonderful return on your investment!
If you are led to invest or become involved in this important social justice ministry, contact Carol Dittmar at 813-499-7167 or [email protected].

Our pastor has a great big heart. When I first told him about Theresa & Scott Cianciolo, the couple from Vermont whose life became more and more entwined with Ukraine, he immediately said, "I've got to meet them!" Pastor Ernie was coming to the end of his study on Philippians and one of God's messages to us was to be a model church, we need to connect with one another and connect to those suffering in our community. He was curious to see how the Cianciolos may be a piece of the puzzle for Wesley (remember those darn puzzles?)
After meeting the Cianciolos in person, Pastor Ernie invited you to become involved. We had a prayer service for Ukraine, we developed Netpal relationships and an advisory committee was formed. You donated money for much needed medicines and we heard we met two new friends with ties to Ukraine at our Good Friday service - Olena, Serafim and his mother, Angel.
While we have had our fourth meeting recently, I'd like to invite any and all Wesleyans to join us for the next one. There is much to do and we need your input.
We'll meet Tuesday, May 31st, 7 pm in room 204, or if you request it, you can join by Zoom. Please feel free to text or call me with any questions at 813-404-2478.

Every Tuesday Morning, Pastor Ernie does a live devotional connected to scripture. Right now he is reading through the book of Hebrews. If the devotional moves you, Pastor Ernie encourages you to SHARE the video and leave a comment, so that someone else may be blessed!

God has allowed me the privilege of sending out requests, since the day we did it by phone. However, now to bring the system up to giving new people the opportunity to serve in this manner, we're trying to change the way we do things. We are asking that instead of emailing me a prayer request, you can email the Church office ([email protected]) or use the link below (in blue) to enter your prayer requests on the Wesley Prayer Wall that is connected to the website.
If you could please help me in spreading the word on this change,
I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for your prayers and the privilege to serve.
